In 1847, the Legislative Assembly appointed a Standing Committee on Railroads and Telegraphic Lines to investigate all petitions and bills presented to the House. This committee was reappointed each year thereafter until 1867. In 1852, the investigation into canals was added and the committee became the Standing Committee on Railroads, Canals and Telegraphic Lines. Cf. Bishop.
